hi,
this is where i'll post progressive snapshots of the current pic i'm working on.
i am after suggestions while i work on it so i get the best result possible for me please be as nitpicky as you can (but without asking to change the whole picture!)
so far i have the pencil sketch scanned.
to get it this clean, i've learnt to go over my sketch lines with a softer lead to darken it up before scanning. it just helps to do cleanup on paper instead of on the computer so i get sharper edges. i used a pacer with a .5mm hb lead.
i didn't bother cleaning up the background though, cos i'm not sure what to do there yet.
also there were some lines i couldn't completely erase cos i did the body first, darkened the lines, then put the dress on her. so some body lines that should be hidden are showing...
i will try out colour combos next.

Well, I think what would help the most for making him err her look female would be a touch of chest showing through the crook of the arm. I'm not an expert on proportions or anything, but she seems flatter than a board along with willow thin. Also, I like the way you have her legs and feet posed better in the 1st one than the 2nd one, though the 2nd one seems to be a more probable pose. As for the backgrounnd, are you absolutely sure those buddhist monks are appropriate for the picture? Love the flowing garments though, that looks really great. |

I love watching a work progress, the background is really cool. Yep I do agree with the others, she needs boobs.
I like how you had the body lines in there, it gave the woman a softness with the transparent garment. Can't wait for the next posting. |

her hand maidens? i originally wanted soldiers lining the wall but they require more detail than robed girls... heh heh ...
okay so now it doesn't make sense why they are standing around the walls. damn! they might have to undergo a sex change. :/
boob, ok, i'll keep that in mind... will have to change the front arm position then...
thanks!

N flaming here, just thought I'd add my 2 cents in and help you out a bit. I like where the image is heading and I thought I might share some helpful hints possibly. Here goes-
The heel of the lead foot should be resting against the ground. Since this needs to be, the bottom of her slipper would be pressed against the foot, not gapped like the back one is, and should be due to lack of surface tension.
She would also fair to have a bit of her rear(buttocks, booty, whatever) defined. Rounding the butt just a bit where the gloots(but muscles) attach to the pelvis will drive the eye downward to the feet. The line you have created trailing her rear lips upward and off into the upper left corner of the canvas. There needs to be a connection, even if ever so subtle, that her back continues on down through her legs. The way you defined the lines it sorta goes against this idea. She would also fair to have just a bit of the breast scenebetween the arm and the torso. This point just to further enhance the beauty of the queen, and give more indicators to her gender.
The point in time that you have caught her walking is just a little bit awkward. Both her legs are bent like they have no weight bearing down on either on of them. She sorta feels like she is floating over the ground. One of the legs should actually be a bit straighter, or better secured to the floor. In the case of your image, the foreleg is the one you would want to modify.
THe other thing you might want to watch is the mark you placed on her cheek. THis can become an eyesore to the gracefulness the rest of her face has, if it is not played down correctly in the painting stage.
This image has a lot of charm to it, and I like where you are going with the background. Keepp posting the progress of this as you feel you have gone far enough along with it.

thanks FFS, i'm gonna have to print that out and tick them off as i try to fix those.
i think i'll leave the background a bit for now and start work on her so it doesn't end up looking like two totally separate layers. i did that last time :/

I think it's looking great, but the background all runs together. It needs more defining and shading. I think you should add some sharp shine to the pillars to give them a marble look. |

i feel like the picture needs a teeny bit more depth... like there ought to be more distance between her and the hand-maidens. maybe if she were a little smaller?

I really like the work you've done on the pillars. they look very... pillary. ha ha. uhm...
I'm going to have to stray from the rest and say I like her chest the way it is. But maybe that's just me.
the odd perspective you've given it and her pose really make her look like she's floating though. |

Hello everyone I'm back! With no new work to post unfortunately. =( Well ok back to topic. After staring at it for awhile, I figured out what it was that was distressing me about the picture. Aside from the fact that she's a giant and has to stoop to get through that doorway, she doesn't have a reflection! A giant vampire? And then the next distressing factor immediately lept out at me. It seems with only external light sources (assuming here from the picture) that there should be a lot more shadows and the people should at least be casting a couple of shadows. The pillars also. That I think would be the biggest thing to add depth to it and properly define exactly where those pillars are. |

WHAT ARE YOU GUYS THINKING
hehe
i beleive that does look like a girl, I dont really see any male qualities in her at all.
not all females have triple D jugs.
=]
but anyway good job i like the style and design of her clothes with the wrappies. =D

thanks Theresa! it would take another girl to see it... this was all about the dress! the working title is "the gown" actually! which is why i am LOATHE to shrink her... i know she's too big, i wanna fix the perspective so she can stay that size, but HOW?
yeah, i haven't gotten around to doing their cast shadows yet (the robes', the woman's and the pillars) i've been putting that off... it didn't occur to me that could help my perspective problem... i just thought it would make it more difficult!
anyway, i didn't do much to fix the real problems, just neatened things up a bit:
