FaithInChaos: Why do you say this? Practically everyone tried to help at first but just got abuse?
Like I say, I'm leaving this thread be. I'm sorry if sijun.com is turning this way. |

FaithInChaos:
Normally I'd agree with everything you'd written. I (and most of the other guys and gals on this board) have given binder the benefit of the doubt on many occasions.
I'm all for batting for the underdog. You can look at my responses on binder's previous threads to see that. However, even when I've given advice, all I've got is abuse.
You're more than welcome to try to get through to him. I hope you do it - maybe I'm just too harsh on him. I think he shows a lot of potential, but he has a little attitude problem that keeps rubbing people up the wrong way. Maybe he'll listen to you, but so far, he's listened to no one.
Anyway, I've had enough of this. I've got better things to do.
Hope you don't think worse of me for my post above, but if you look at my attempts to give binder advice in the past (not just on this thread) you might understand it a little more... :\
Oh, and welcome to the forum! Hope to see some of your artwork soon! <friendly hug for Faith in Choas>

FaithInChaos- I'm looking at my new Eve Protomecha poster by Joe Mad and LIQUID!. That is colouring. Like I said there is an art to colouring and people get paid a lot for doing it. But it is an artform, and with all artforms there are skills and theories involved.
I'm getting realy fu$%ing sick of people addressing me as "all you guys". and that is exactly what you are doing. everyone has given diferent advice that is in places helpful, and in others useless spam agrivated by binders attitude. You are treating everyone but yourself as one big angry mob. and a bananna for the clever monkey who can figure out how those people are going to act. As quite reserved individuials who have given thier oppinion. Nah.
How long have you been listening to what people say here. You wanna bet "no one ever took their lips from spooges, dhabih, and freds ass to say something nice to a beginer." Hit me buddy how much are you willing to gamble.
About the only thing I do agree with is I too "wonder if people read the posts they reply to..."
I sinceerly hope you do not give up on this forum. If you are going to make statements like "people here act like they are two years old" then I don't think you are really examining the situation. You are talking to a hundred or more people. Now that sort of comment is reminisent of a small child. It is general and steryotypical. A blunt "you suck" wituout some reasoning or explanation only shows a short fuse and an ill thought out argument.
I (and quite a few otheres) am extreemly interestd in colouring. Also talking about it as well as giving and taking advice. I just don't like people coming in here and not taking (or acknowlaging and debating) advice on what they are doing. If you don't want crits then you should state it.
If you have a problem with what I say then, tell me to shove it. I'll respect you a lot more if you are game enough to actuialy face someone about your complaints . This goes for you as well Binder. You will probably find that we agree a lot more that you think. Most of this whole flame war is to do with poor comunication. I have no problem with binder or what he is doing, but I'm not so keen on the way he has communicated his position and intentions.
Why am I wasting my time on this crap. This is my last post until someone actialy abuses me by name (Then we can actuialy get somewhere).

He (the guy in the picture) seems to have his hands tied up or something. What if you set him in some sort of nasty, wet, disguting dungeon-like prison cell? With all sorts of dirty small creatures waiting for him to faint out of exhaustion to slowly eat him alive... His face does not show a tired weak expression, though. Maybe you should tweak that for being coherent.
(er, binder, in a friendly way, I know you are probably tired of hearing this, but since some might consider "playing" with Alan's sketch this way might be going too far, if, when it is finished, you ever hang your art in a web or show it to someone I would reference a link to the original sketch. That would also show how much you can contribute a linework with as a colorer. When it is finished, that is. Just my 2c.

Binder, What about the black area surrounding the character? I know that you
were gonna add a background to it, but you know it's easier to have a background in mind before starting on the character. His skin is too yellow and some areas looks very flat. Also, if you want to shade the guy that way, you'll manage better without those
outlines.Try to analyse the sketch better instead of just adding colours over it.I can see the that you have big problems describing the shapes on the areas that lacks lines on Alans sketch. Some areas could
be sharper(harder shadows).Try to use the paintbrush more instead of the airbrush.
Hope this helps.
Another thing Binder, what makes it difficult to say anything about your work is that most of it is not more than flat
colours over a sketch and i think that is one thing most people could do without any problem. Maybe you could experiment a lot more with the colours and have more interresting lightsources and dramatic light-settings.

NOTE: THIS IS NOT A FLAME
I think that if you're going to be coloring in someone else's pic, you shouldn't worry too much about composition and things like that. I don't think you should put in a background. Coloring other people's sketches can be good for practice, but not a finished work of art. Save all the composing and planning and whatnot for a 100% original pic. If you're going to color in someone else's pics, don't try to make them into completed pics. Just color them in for practice, then put all the effort into your own pic.
Again, that's not a flame, just a suggestion for how you can improve. |

binder,
I had a look out for that book I mentioned earlier. Whilst it is about drawing comics, I seem to recall it has information about colouring as well but I'd get it through a library to see whether the colouring info in it is useful.
title: "How to Draw Comics the Marvel Way"
authors: Stan Lee, John Buscema
publisher: Titan Books
ISBN: 0907610668
Give the ISBN number to your local library and they can probably get it in for you. |

*sighs* this is what happens when Craig leaves... Binder, do you realize how many times you've told us you didn't care and didn't want our help? THEN WHY DO YOU KEEP COMING BACK!!! And obviously if you want help from us "retards", as you so eliquently put, what could you be? You need help from "retards"?
You hate us so much, you think we are worthless... i see your heart cringe in pain as your soul devours you. You know how easy it is to revitalize your body and soul? Leave. Be gone! Your greedy and selfish traits have corrupted you.
*pounds the pulpet* alright, done preaching... |

Silico, I think he got it, and if he didn't it's his life. Take it easy. If you can suggest something, cool. If not, or are going to say something somebody already said, just think about the reason to waste your time on it. If you still think it is worth it, well, it's your life too. He asked about the background, I answered about the background. I could comment on his coloring but that is not what he is asking here, so I'll save my time.
er... what am doing writing this, then? Got me...

Ceenda,
I used to have that book until someone "borrowed" it from me permanently..lets not get into that!
But seeing as in you used it as a reference i have to give my take on it. Its an amazing book. Its old but useful. it helped me out a whole lot back in the day and it still influences my drawings. Its a must for any comic art fan !
And Binder, im new here also and my coloring isnt all that great, actually i suck but im working on it. You should be able to take criticism, bad or good.. it'll pay off in the end.

ok, he ask's for advice/crit and then when he gets it or doesnt get it what ever he thinks.. he starts swearing at us?
now I wont claim to be a *great* artist but least i know how to read things properly which this child obviously isnt doing. And he even said it him self.
I don't believe anyone here deserves to be swarn at, not by you or anyone. This may be babble but im sure others agree that he should take is tone elsewhere?
