I'm not super thrilled with this one but I thought I'd post it anyway, there's some perspective problems (I could have done some really nifty stuff with perspective had I done any guidelines) and I had to add railing to give the sense that Baron Harkonnen wasn't some gargantuan onlooker, but it also makes him look like he's not floating, but he is...
But I whipped it up real fast to just try my hand at something DUNE before I went to bed. Think of it as a study or a prelim to a finished work.

Flex my man....Whats up!
Long time.
This doesn't look that bad.
I really like the rock at the top.
The other walls at the top could use some workn on I think.
Does this have anything to do with the comic?

the film was great (haven't read the books yet); nice pic btw
does s.o. know were I could get detailed references on Dune troop types, espescially Harkonnen and Artreides - I don't like the Sadaukas |

Flex, I wonder when this duel happens in the book. I read it a couple years ago and I have seen the old movie, but I can't remember a duel like that... bad memory I suppose.
I looks good, when you finish it, will be great

As a quick piece, I like this. If it'd be finished I'd be slightly irritated by the "background troops", too uniform. You should've done them individually. Or just some gray mass that suggests it has some forms in it, like I usually do

Galen> Yeah Dune is pretty neat. I live in Greeley.
Blitz> The pic could use some major work overall. My next one will be more finished. As for my comic, I may or may not convert it to a Flash strip. Probably not though. A couple of my friends had told me it would change the whole feel I have goin'.
Solitaire> Yeah the story is what truly drives the movie. George Lucas swiped a few ideas from 'ol Frank Herbert even. As for reference, you should just make up your own versions. That's what I plan to do when I do a finished painting of the Fremen and the Emperor's Terror Troops. It's more fun that way
Jenn> Yeah I was bored and nothing was on TV, and I hadn't painted anything in a long time so I just started paintin'. This one didn't take me that long. I hesitated posting it but I figured what the heck.
Ragnarok> It's just supposed to be Feyd fighting in one of his gladiatorial bouts. I changed it so he was fighting a Harkonnen soldier rather than a slave.
labrat> Definitely cookie-cutter troops On a finished work I'd be sure to give them more individuality.
Thanks Ladies and Gents,

That is awsome! I love Dune as well.
P.S Someday I hope I can just "whipped it up real fast" and create a masterpiece. |

Your style keeps developing, but I really think you should set aside some time each day just to do figure drawing. The two guys fighting are way off in their anatomy and physics.

thanx Flex; to improvise and count on one's own imagination is the better way in consideration of Shizo's suggestion(thanx anyways ) as they aren't that adequate. |

Hey Flex. Looks pretty neat for a prelim. I would make it more like a widescreen shot if you decide to work on it more. Maybe make it into a huge arena for dramatic flare.
By the way, I thought you were going to use my pic of Orm on your site? If not oh well. |
