kickass work so far guys!
Matthew, looks great! but maybe a bit too symmetrical composition? feels a tad mirrored, maybe. i dunno.
wipp. so the evil scientist has finally found the place where the colossus is hidden, and the way to bring it to life again is working.
EDIT: (like i should be the one to talk about too symmetrical compositions, haha!) |

Flaskpost, appreciate the comment, really enjoy yours.
Yes I think it is perhaps too mirrored but if you break away from on it when it is distorted it quickly becomes unbalanced....
I believe I put myself in a complicated situation perhaps too complicated, because one way horizontal you have a distorted view and on the vertical it is not distorted.
With this comes also that the shadows should be distorted, in the one I am working on at the moment I had to center the cast shadow because making it distorted doesn't make sense lol.
I got some critique on the piece to open up above his hand but that also makes it more difficult to get away from the distortion.
lol it all sounds like bad excuses haha I am such a sucker.hehe.

How's it going people?
haha this piece is turning out to be hilarious, now I am really running out off time lol. Inspired by Capt.Fred composition, btw fred really genious to focus up in the middle like you did with yours: Perhaps I should have emphasized on that earlier.

Cool stuff everyone.
Godzilla Was Matthew......really enjoy your latest incarnation. Like the idea of having the sun placed behind him, giving him a strong silhouette,
while leaving him a bit more obscure and ominous. _________________ WEBSITE |

Nice guys
ZupZup, love the painting
Matthew, I prefer that version too. The sense of scale is very achieved. A more frightening colossus would be great.
Tht's my colossus. Initially I did a bigeer-scale version but didnt like. Is more a giant than a colossus hehe

Damn guys your stuff is awesome, now I can see I really suck with mine.
I really don't like the kind of stiffness I have in my piece, not sure it would have helped with many sketches because I tend to change my mind all the way, damn.
I'm screwed.
ZupZup, that's really awesome, things flow in the composition.
I had to do a quick sketch when I saw yours lol. Homage to you ZupZup
thanks for the comments guys. |

fripp, forgot to comment yours, really unique style you're starting to achieve and very nice. Especially in this piece here adding more balance to the whole. Keep up the good work.
And yea I could have restored it but it was a damn nasty bug, put down windows into hibernating.
Sometimes those tings survive restore points. I have seen it before. So all had to go.
Back again though.
Got back to sketching again, guess the hammer got stuck in my mind.
Perhaps I should have zigged when I zagged? damn mew are awesome lol.
quickies for the sketchbook. Need to get out of the stiffness I got comfortable with, damn that stiffness.
here's a good song, "beach" with Mew

There seems to be something wrong with my laptop, maybe it is overheating? I do believe so at this moment....
It keeps shutting down after a while, do remember I had some problem like that years ago with my regular pc but that was the motherboard.
Harder to tell with laptops I believe, maybe it is the battery?
Anyway that sucks because it kept shutting down twice when I painted this, so this will be final picture.
I call it "you're next"
Thanks for joining the contest everyone, remember you still have to Monday to post your colossus piece. See you in the voting, hope to be around. Hopefully the laptop can be fixed, or maybe it is some setting we'll see.
keep up everyone |

I like that latest one Matthew, i had exactly the same problem with my laptop as well, the only thing that worked for me was setting it to use max battery in the power settings which makes the cpu less hot, it works.
Hopefully i get time to put image in over the weekend, great entries from everyone here _________________ www.tenglandsketchbook.blogspot.com

Cool work all! Matthew - ideawell
I've been pretty sick this week so I havn't able to sleep too well, thus my ability to go with the theme sucks to the fullest
I worked these 3 sketches a bit further, still wondering on what to settle on
I guess the dinosaur with useless wings is more 'colossal' than the other 2
*edit so the dragondinosaur is my 'final'
original version for the ship

too bad I like stupid colors so this version will stay in the bag
